Something to ponder about ....

Hi , I wrote a blog 2 years back when i was in college . Want to share it with you. I want you to read it with an open mind and think about it.  The blog goes like this :
"
Gandhi jayanti for many, is nothing more than another holiday . For some it is read more as a dry day than having a sense of gratitude that mostly because of Bapu they're getting to drink whatever drink they're drinking in the first place . i would want each and every one of us to celebrate this day . I am an optimist by nature and try to see every thing with optimism .

Some people try throwing dirt at Bapu's character . They say he was responsible for the Partition . Some say he was seen with women a more too often if u know what i , rather they mean . I feel sad .. very sad that people can think of such things . What makes them say all this is they tend to believe Gandhi as someone next to God . And because of that he is not supposed to make any mistakes , he is not supposed to behave like ordinary men . For this i guess all the hype over Gandhiji is to blame . It makes us treat him as no less than God and when there are people who believe in God ,there must be atheists too . But then doesnt the man who single handedly shook the foundation of the Queen's establishment deserve such a stature ?? !!

The partition was because of Gandhiji ... REALLY ? So that means the likes of Jinnah , Mountbatten and other prominent men of that time did not want the partition and were just pawns in Gandhiji's game ? I suggest to people saying Gandhiji was responsible for the partition to get their history right . As far as i know ( and i hope the texts and documentaries which i've gone through have showed a pretty clear picture of what happened ) , a separate state was asked by Jinnah and when riots grew Gandhiji had to give in .

Then people say he was seen with women and saying so they take away everything he deserves for what he did .. i mean take a break !!! Seen with women ?!! Is that reason enough to say he wasnt what we say he was ? To them i'd like to tell them , don think of him as a holy man( read sage ) , he wasnt ... but he was more than that . He was an extra-ordinary man who gave up his life in a foreign land to save his country . Its a simple fact which shouldnt be tough for everyone to digest .

That one man has changed the history of a billion people living today in this country and the least that is expected of us is to respect him and the fact that he gave up on so much to give us what he has . The least we can do is pay him respect on at least one day in a year if the entire year is too tough for us !!!  "

The reason i'm sharing this and the reason i wrote this is to highlight that you should have your own opinion. You should be able to think logically and not follow what everyone else say. Its an important part of being a manager or a top level executive.

The beginning ...

Hi Guys ,
This is our first blog. The purpose of this is to share our experiences and knowledge about writing the GMAT , about B Schools in general or just about any topic under the sun.We had a great start to our preparations yesterday when four of us sat in the conference room and opened up the Subject-Verb agreement inside out :) . It was immensely helpful. All thanks to Shiv's detailed research on the topic that we now are confident of taking on the Subject-Verb agreement problems head on. And i'm sure ,after a couple of weeks, i can say the same for all topics that we cover. It goes to show that we mean 'business'( pun intended? ;) ).And by that I mean that we will not settle for anything less than a 760.We keep our bars high and we make sure we get there. There is only one way, hard work.Of course it sounds cliche, but it works. We have the passion and the commitment , nothing comes in our way.
Now, let me give a brief about the topics that we covered yesterday : First we discussed about additive phrases - rule is whenever we get the structure "X (additive phrase) Y " , X will always decide the verb form. Then we discussed about "Either/Neither X or/nor Y" , Y always decides the verb form. If Either/Neither is used alone then verb is singular (Correct me if i'm wrong ! ). We also went through the countable and uncountable nouns .Few important things to remember are : 1) Material and abstract nouns are uncountable.
2) police, cattle ,thanks, earnings are always plural. 3) Subjects, diseases, games , 'News','Information', and activities are singular. Then comes the all important SANAM : Some All None Any Most/More - look for "OF" construction . The "One of the " structure is always followed by a plural , the verb takes singular form. eg: One of the students is going home. BUT if the "One of the " structure is followed by a pronoun (that) then the verb is plural.eg: Lake X is  one of the lakes that flow through the country. "The number of"- Singular. " A number of" - Plural.  When subject is preceded by "Each /Every" verb is singular. BUT , if "Each/Every" follows the subject , verb is plural.eg :They each are great tennis players.

The above are just few important points that we need to remember. It does not cover each and every topic discussed.
All in all , a great start.Lets keep up the momentum. Cheers !
